Points of note regarding the American Community Survey.
- This is 1% percent sample of the entire US population and is conducted by the U.S. Bureau of the Census.
- Our work is to custom tabulate and chart the data but we do not in any way modify or adjust the statistical tabulations.
- Also, while this is the largest and most reliable source for these data, in some states the actual sample sizes may be small. For example, an estimate of 1,000 is only based on about 10 respondents. That said, the Census Bureau develops individual person weights for each individual in each household.
- A final point is that the weightings for the American Community Survey changed in 2010 along with the 2010 Census. There is a slight shift between 2009 and 2010 showing an one-time increase in Latinos. Users are cautioned to consider this in their analysis.
